An extensive range of rotations available for Intern Medical Practitioners across all medical and surgical specialties, emergency, rural GP placements, mental health and rehabilitation. All rotations are consultant-led, with 24-hour senior clinician support across all sites. As the state’s largest network, situated across two sites, Royal Adelaide Hospital, is a centre of excellence and tertiary referral centre for South Australia that allows Interns to gain experience with subspecialty services such as respiratory, neurology, ENT and trauma. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, is located just 15 minutes down the road, heading towards the beach and allows Interns to gain experience with subspecialty services, including orthopaedics, cardiology, geriatrics and gastroentrology. Interns have regular access to support and training through the TMO Unit and Medical Education Team, who provide weekly fully catered educational sessions, in addition to quarterly simulation sessions in a state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Laboratory. We are co-located with Adelaide University, with close ties providing the opportunity for academic growth and collaboration, in addition to a variety of Masters and Doctoral degrees available for aspiring academic clinicians. CALHN has a supportive culture, with a strong focus on junior doctor wellbeing, social events coordinated by a TMO-led society and advocacy through monthly meetings of a Junior Medical Advisory Council attended by TMOs and senior clinicians. Position Overview: As a TMO at CALHN, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality healthcare services, supporting senior medical staff, and honing your skills in various medical disciplines. As an Intern Medical Practitioner, your duties can include: Undertaking the assessment and day to day management of patients under the supervision of more senior, experienced medical staff. To organise and co-ordinate any investigations and procedures needed for patients and/or as requested by senior staff. Learning how to adequately document a patient’s history, examination, investigation findings, and all other relevant information in the clinical record. Conduct an appropriate history and examination relevant to the patient’s presenting symptoms. To be successful in this role, you will have: Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent Limited/provisional medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia to practise as an Intern Medical Practitioner Knowledge of contemporary medical practice, procedures, investigations and treatments appropriate to the level of the position. High level of negotiation and communication skills with the ability to show empathy for patients and their relatives/families.
