THE ROLE The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing provides undergraduate Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Juris Doctor (JD) students who are in their penultimate or final year of the JD or LLB in 2023, the opportunity to experience a work placement in the department's Legal Services Branch (LSB). The department is offering six legal internship placements over the summer semester break for the following periods: 20 November 2023 to 15 December 2023, or 29 January 2024 to 23 February 2024 The Legal Services Branch are looking for summer interns that are motivated, demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and good judgment, and have excellent written and oral communications skills. To succeed in this role, you will have strong academic results in a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and an interest in a career in government. ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE The interns will have the support of a key senior solicitor as their supervisor and will work in one of our teams for the course of the internship. The interns will also be exposed to a range of key legal activities from the other teams over the month. This will ensure that the interns are exposed to broad areas of legal work across the department and will develop a range of key legal skills. There will be opportunities for the interns to gain exposure to and work on a diverse range of matters across LSB. This work is likely to include: research on discrete legal and legal policy issues arising in the current work attending court hearings working closely with the department's legal advisers to prepare advice and briefings Please open the position description to read more.
