Australian Training Company (ATC) is seeking someone with a genuine passion and interest in Outdoor Recreation for a 12 Month Sport, Aquatics and Recreation Traineeship. During this time, you will complete a Nationally Recognised Qualification – SIS30122 – Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation. This position will be located at a Northside College in Canberra. In this position, you will support the Outdoor Education faculty by: Assisting teachers and staff where necessary with all aspects of the outdoor education program including excursions, practical lessons, excursion preparation and administration Learning and implementing the protocols and skills associated with Outdoor Education Leading, instructing, and assisting students with all aspects of the Outdoor Education Program Participating as a staff member on excursions, managing student safety, presenting activity briefings and instruction, pre-trip planning and preparation and post-trip pack-up and debriefing Applying activity specific skills in a range of activities such as, but not limited to navigation, climbing, hiking, snorkelling, abseiling, bushwalking, etc Mentoring and role modelling appropriate behaviours and communication for students Completing all the training and assessment requirements for the SIS30122 – Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation In this position the trainee is required to be available outside the ‘normal’ school hours and time in lieu will be provided. The successful applicant will ideally: Have recently completed a Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation Have a current First Aid and CPR Certificate or willingness to obtain Have a current bronze medallion certificate or willingness to obtain Have documented experience in and a passion for various outdoor recreation activities. Present professionally and have a good level of personal physical fitness Have a strong sense of accountability and a commitment to providing a positive environment Have a strong work ethic and be self-motivated Demonstrate initiative and strong capacity to follow operating procedures and instructions Demonstrate excellent time management skills, organisation, and ability to prioritise tasks effectively Demonstrate confident communication skills both written and oral Be reliable and committed to the role (this includes the need to make presentations when necessary) Have a well-developed ability to recognise and value the diversity of staff and students Be able to maintain supportive and positive and professional relationships with the client groups aged 16-18 years old A mature and responsible attitude toward this role is essential, as it will carry with it a great deal of responsibility.
