Only a very very small number of students end up in a management consulting internship in Australia. But thousands try!

Here are some of the management consulting firms in Australia;
LEK, BCG, Port Jackson Partners, Corporate Value Assoc., AT Kearney, McKinsey, Booz Allen, Bain, Oliver Wyman.

Here's some resources and jargon to get you started;

Front Office:
Roles and areas in the firm that generate income and are client-facing - ie consultants.

Back office:
Roles in the office, like HR, accounting, that support, but don't directly generate income to the firm.

Pro Bono
Many firms will provide free consulting to selected charitable organisations. This is called pro bono work. (from latin, meaning for the "public good").

Market sizing:
A type of question in MC interviews asking you to estimate a market size. The idea is to see how you go about it -your logic and your creativity. EG: "How many TV's are sold in Australia pa". You might reply, "I'll guess the average life of a TV is 10 years, there are 21m people in Australia, Average people per dwelling is around 2, so approx 10m dwellings, av. house has av. 2 tv's. So... 20m TV's installed -so 20m/10yrs =2m tv sold each year." You might get the numbers wrong but the logic right.

Case Interviews:
A type of question used in some MC interviews. involves giving you a business case study problem and asking you to solve it. See www.caseinterview.com or search Youtube.

EC:
Extra curricula activities. You put this stuff on your CV. So if you speak 5 languages and won a global violin competition and last summer set up a school in Sudan, put it on your CV. If you "enjoy spending time on facebook", don't mention it. Sometimes you'll hear people talk about having "ok marks, but I've got awesome EC". Yeah right.

A life:
Undefined. Something you might have to give up if you want to go down this career path.
